Tom Aspinall & Ciryl Gane labeled a no-contest due to eye poke

UFC 321 broke the hearts of millions worldwide.

Tom Aspinall versus Ciryl Gane was labeled a no-contest due to an unintentional eye-poke from Ciryl Gane.

This is a terrible outcome for both athletes. For Gane, this was the best he's ever looked.

The challenger was on pace to win the first round, circling the cage and peppering Aspinall with quick jabs, doing significant damage to Aspinall's eye, causing lots of bleeding.

Following the contest's suspension, in his post-fight interview, Aspinall furiously addressed the crowd. Whether the boos were directed at him or at the outcome of the fight, for an athlete who waited 15 months for this shot and with all the politics surrounding his undisputed status, this is truly a gut-wrenching result.

Dana White said that they will look to book this rematch as soon as possible. UFC 323 in December looks like a realistic timeline, and with neither fighter having to cut significant weight, this could be the perfect ending for the UFC in 2025.
